Reza Habashian was a second-grade student.
Reza’s mother says:
“At first, I did not know, because his father had not told me what had happened. But now I think that because my Reza loved Abbas ibn Ali so much, only his left hand was hit by shrapnel. Because Abolfazl Abbas held the water-skin in his hand.”
In the images on TV, a hand can be seen, found, and shown to the camera.
Reza’s mother continues:
“My mother had gone to Karbala at the beginning of Ramadan last year. Because Reza was our only child, and because he was special and she loved him very much, she called and asked, ‘What should I buy for you? What toy do you like?’
Reza said, ‘I don’t want anything. I have many toys, Grandma Maryam. Bring me the water-skin of Abbas, and I like the clothes of Ali Asghar.’”
With a lump in her throat, his mother says she has now kept them on his bed as keepsakes.
During the first ten days of Muharram, when they held mourning ceremonies, Reza loved that outfit. With the water-skin, he would distribute water among the children and ask his mother to pour a little rosewater into it.
“Reza’s ways were very special,” his mother says. “Very special.”
Then she shows Reza’s handwriting in his notebook and reads from what he had written:
“Hello Imam Reza, I miss you. I want you to give health to my father and mother. I pray that I can come to visit you as soon as possible.”
His cousin, Sana, who was a fifth-grade student at the same primary school, also survived the attack. She says:
“After I heard the sound of the explosion, suddenly I felt the ground beneath me disappear. I fell, and in that incident my hands were burned.”
She says three of her friends were martyred. She shows the pictures of the martyrs and says:
“I see the faces of my friends here.”
