Hami Sadeghi was a fifth-grade student.
A video of him from when he was nine years old was later published. In it, Hami is crying and telling his father, “I miss Imam Hussein.”
His sister, Nila, was trapped under the rubble in this crime and later rescued. She says:
“My brother was in the schoolyard when the first explosion happened. When he heard the explosion, he said: ‘I want to go and save my mother.’ When he went, the second explosion happened, and they were martyred together.”
Their mother, Neda Solhizadeh, was a teacher at the school. She had remained there to protect other children, away from her own children, and she too was martyred.
Hami’s story is the story of a child who ran toward danger because his mother was there. In that moment, he was not only a student, not only a son, but a boy whose love overcame fear. He went to save his mother, and the missile took them both.
