Fatemeh Fadavi and Maliheh Naeimi were two of the teachers who lost their lives that day in the U.S.-Israeli air attack. Fatemeh was a second-grade teacher, and Maliheh was a first-grade teacher.
Fatemeh Fadavi’s husband says that his wife and his sister had been teaching at the school for two years. On the day of the attack, his wife called him and said she was handing the students over to their families. She told him she would call again afterward so that he could come and take her home.
But that second call never came.
When he arrived, the school had already collapsed. His wife and his sister had been in the school’s prayer room with several students. Their bodies were identified around midnight.
In that final call, Fatemeh was still doing the work of a teacher: making sure the children reached their families before thinking of herself. But the war cut the line before she could return home.
